Herbs and Oils for Mabon

The Autumn Equinox is almost here!

Mabon is September 23 in 2020

Mabon, much like a Pagan Thanksgiving, entails of feasting, reflection, and appreciation for that which we have in our lives.  As the year comes to a close, and the final fruits of our labor come into our basket, we determine how we will power through the winter and darkness, in anticipation for the sun to return once more in spring.

Many use this Autumnal Equinox time to start exploring their shadow selves, as we encounter this side more frequently as winter sets in.  While prosperity may appear to be at an end, the Mabon feast shows us we have more than we may think.

The Harvest Energies of Mabon Day

Fall Equinox Spiritual Meanings

As Mother Earth begins to hibernate, we too, as her children, begin to feel the soft lull of winter.  In this part of the cycle, we are taught self-reliance, reliance on community, and loved ones. She has not abandoned us, but teaches us to forge ourselves as beings that can thrive without the bounties of spring and summer, by giving us independence.

Encouragement and support can also come in the form of spiritual items, such as essential oils and harvested herbs associated with the season. We use these spiritual tools to help us to focus on the meaning of Mabon, to make ritual offerings, and to embellish our rituals with Mabon Anointing Oil and Mabon Incense.

Autumn Equinox
God & Goddess Correspondences

We may also look to deities and spiritual guides at this time of change, asking them for blessings and guidance.  A few commonly associated with the final harvest are Persephone, Demeter, The Green Man, Dionysus, Bacchus, Osiris, Ishtar, Durga, Freyr, Freya, Cernunnos, Ceridwen, and St. Michael the Archangel.  Many of these are figures of prosperity throughout the year, but are also associated specifically with autumn.
